China to start excavation of horse-and-chariot burial
"Excavation will start on the 131-meter-long horse-chariot sector of the Xiongjiazhong Tomb before February, 2008," said Yan Pin, director of the Archaeology Bureau of Jingzhou, central China's Hubei Province, where the tomb is.

Die Steinzeitabbildungen von Lascaux sind rund 17000 Jahre vor unserer Zeitrechnung entstanden und zeigen Kunstwerke aus der frühen Steinzeit. Auerochse, Pferd und Hirsch sind genauso zu sehen, wie Umrisse einer menschlichen Hand. Leider haben die Bilder durch die vielen Besucher gelitten – die Höhle ist deshalb schon kurz nach ihrer Eröffnung in den 60er Jahren wieder geschlossen worden. Wer die Abbildungen trotzdem sehen will, kann eine Kopie der Höhle besuchen. Oder "Lascaux" spielen. Hier sind die Motive der Höhle auf den Karten abgebildet.[...]

Das Fleisch der Toten, das zu Staub wurde, brennt auf der Haut. Es klebt in den Augen. Die Erde weht durch die Zähne, mit jedem Atemzug, der Wind bläst sie in den Rachen, in die Lunge, tief hinunter, wo es sticht, wenn Abdul Qahar spuckend in der Grube kniet, die Ahnen verfluchend, in deren Staub er wühlt. Schaufel für Schaufel hat er in den Wind geschlagen. Mit zerrissenen Fingernägeln durchkämmt er den Dreck. Eine Scherbe bleibt zwischen den Fingern hängen. Er wirft sie achtlos über den Grubenrand, wo Scherben in Massen liegen, prachtvoll bemalt, in allen Farben, mit rätselhaften Schriftzügen und Symbolen. Tiefer gräbt Abdul Qahar, ausdauernd, ein Mann mit klugen blauen Augen, der inständig hofft, heute wie morgen und dann den Tag darauf, dass er endlich erlöst wird von den Toten.[...]

A series of frescos dating back to the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911) were found in an assembly hall in Wafang Village in Ziyang County, Shaanxi Province. The entire area of these frescos covers about 220 square meters, which is very rare in China.The frescos are exquisite. Experts said that the frescos remain valuable as historical studies because they depict ancient business assembly halls, buildings, paintings and folk cultures. Fast hätten die Bagger sie zerstört: 1994 stießen der Archäologe Hartmut Thieme und Kollegen im niedersächsischen Braunkohlerevier bei Schöningen (Landkreis Helmstedt) unter einer zehn Meter dicken Erdschicht auf mehrere Holzspeere. Die Analyse ergab: Die Schöpfer der Wurfgeschosse müssen Meister der Handwerkskunst gewesen sein. Die Speere waren nicht nur perfekt geschnitzt, sie besaßen auch – wie Versuche mit Nachbauten ergaben – annähernd die Flugeigenschaften heutiger Wettkampfspeere. Umso erstaunlicher ist das Alter der Waffen: Vor 400.000 Jahren hatten Vertreter der Hominidenart Homo erectus sie geschaffen.[...]

Sie sprechen von einem sensationellen Fund.Auf der einen Seite des Bleisiegels ist der Name des Gegenpapstes Anaklet II. abgebildet, auf der anderen Petrus und Paulus mit dem Bischofsstab. The cemetery, bed burial and high status objects are considered to all indicate the people buried must have connections with Anglo-Saxon royalty.

A metal scrap collector from Trieu Phong district found the bronze coins weighing some 34 kg one meter below the earth surface. One side of many coins has four Chinese characters.
Most of the coins were made in China between the 11th century and the 12 century in the North Sung Dynasty, and the remainder in Vietnam in the 15th century, said Le Duc Tho, vice director of the Quang Tri Museum.

Sabbagh salvaged the fragment from a burning synagogue in Aleppo, Syria in 1947.
Inscribed on both sides, it is one of the lost fragments of the codex, a copy of the Bible written in 920 C.E. in Tiberias by the scribe Shlomo Ben Buya'a.
